Over A Thousand Full Scholarships for South-Side Students
The Education Upliftment Project, which involves full scholarships to secondary school students on the city’s south side, is currently being rolled out. The initiative is providing full scholarships to a thousand high school students who live and attend school on that side of the Haulover Creek. Today, Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, shared the scope of the program with us.

“We’re starting our pilot in four government high schools: Sadie Vernon, Excelsior, Maud Williams, and Gwen Lizarraga, that will be the start of it. So, we’re very excited about that initiative. A lot of work has gone into it, and as I’ve said, it’s not just about tuition, it’s a comprehensive approach to education in those communities, looking at transportation issues, looking at school feeding programs, looking at social support to the families of thee students, so it’s a comprehensive approach to education in these marginalized communities.”
