Miss Belize appears in Miss Universe Pageant

Well, if you were watching closely you got to see Miss Belize Viola Jeffery in her national costume last night at the start of the Miss Universe Pageant in Trinidad. Although she didn’t win, or even place in the finals, and her appearance on stage was brief, you can still admire Miss Jeffery in her evening gown on the Miss Universe website. Miss Jeffery prepared for the pageant by taking a runway course in Mexico and having costumes designed in Colombia. While we here in Belize are disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of Viola in Trinidad, we aren’t alone. Trinidad which hosted the pageant and had their contestant win last year, did not place in the finals either. The people who are no doubt dancing in the streets tonight are the citizens of Botswana since their contestant Mpule Kwelagobe was crowned the new Miss Universe. It was the first time Botswana had entered the contest and they are no doubt stunned and elated that they actually won the title.
