Toyota Tour ’99 big success
While most people were trying to get to the Agriculture Show Grounds in Belmopan this past weekend the quickest way possible, the twenty competitors in the Toyota Tour ’99 took the long route. The tour, which started at six o’clock on Sunday morning, took the Toyota drivers from Belize City through Burrell Boom, Hillbank, Gallon Jug, Spanish Lookout and ended at three p.m. at the fair grounds in Belmopan. According to Toyota Tour ’99’s coordinator Israel Marin, it may have been a rough and rugged trip, but they had a lot of fun.

“The purpose of the tour is to have everyone as a Toyota family, to know the places in Belize, especially the places you would not normally go on a normal weekend. We organize it so that people would know the country, especially the back areas of the country, and for people to enjoy their Toyota vehicles.
It was not a speed race but we timed them. We timed them when they left and we timed them when they arrived. So the person that did not lose track or who found the area that we had designated, he was the person that did the best time. It wasn’t the person that was going faster, it was the person that didn’t get lost and got there with the best time. That is how we got the first prize allocation.”

The names of the five drivers with the best times were pooled and a winner selected. Sean Feinstein walked away with the first prize of an air conditioner which will come in very handy after the long journey.
