Louis Ysaguirre’s songs featured on cassette
Before Punta Rock and Dance Hall Reggae there were hits like, “Sweet Belizean Girl”. Now the popular tunes are back in a new release. The composer tells us how he brought back “Sweet Memories”.
Louis Ysaguirre, Composer
“This “Sweet Memories” cassette came from songs I had written a long, long time ago. Some of my friends are really familiar with some of my songs, like “I Do” from in the 50’s, “Sweet Belizean Girl” in the 60’s and “Belize Rose” in the 40’s.
These songs were written at that time because I was kinda lonesome. My girlfriend and I had just broken up. When I wrote this particular song, “Belizean Rose.”
These songs were written from romantic feelings, disappointed ones, good ones and what you call it again? Frivolous ones like the “Sweetie Patooche”. And that is how I got to make this “Sweet Memories” cassette.
“Sweet Memories” was released last week and features the vocal talents of Steve Babb, Zoila Clarke and Elsworth Gillett.
