A New Building for Orange Walk Technical High School
Today, a new building with eight classrooms was officially inaugurated at the Orange Walk Technical High School. The project, which is valued at one point three million dollars, supports the sustainable development goals, which calls for quality education for all. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Over two hundred plus students will now be able to access a spanking new building at the Orange Walk Technical High School.

“It is truly an investment in the most precious of our resources, our human resources. I want to assure our prime minister, the chairlady and the executive director of SIF and our chiefs that we will be good stewards of this building. I can only imagine all the productive citizens of our country that will be formed in these very same classrooms. For some, this is only a school building, but for us, it is our tomorrow.”
The one point three million dollar project was implemented by the Social Investment Fund through funds from the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Belize. Chair of the Board of the Social Investment Fund is C.E.O. Narda Garcia.

“C.D.B. is one of Belize’s funding agencies that contribute to the development of Belizeans and the national development of Belize. This is accomplished via its sub-projects in the area of education, health, water sanitation and hygiene under the auspices of the Board of Directors. Sub-projects are aimed to address the critical or fundamental needs of Belizeans and create opportunities for Belizeans to integrate in the national developmental grid of Belize.”
The school, which was established in the early 1980’s, sits within the Orange Walk Central constituency. PM John Briceño in his remarks honoured the vision of his father.

“He felt that it was important for our growing community to set aside an area that we can develop for the young people of this country and that’s how he came across with this idea and this vision. And when Orange Walk Technical High School was built and opened, he was the Minister of Education at that time. So technical does hold a special place in my heart case I know where it started.
we want beautiful facilities, of course, but what is important is what happens inside those classrooms where the teachers can transform these kids into being uncertain about their future to giving them that feeling that yes we can do things, we can do better with an education.”
