B.T.L. celebrates World Telecom Day
“Electronic Commerce” is the theme for this year’s World Telecommunications Day. The day was observed in Belize with B.T.L.’s annual exhibition. Cynthia Genitty, B.T.L.’s Public Relations Officer spoke about the latest equipment the company had on display for 1999.

“First of all we have the Information Systems Department which we are showing the public how B.T.L. has advanced in technology over the years. We want the public to see how we are preparing for the year two thousand and how we are addressing the Y2K problem.
We have our Sales Department up here as well. We are showcasing the most recent user equipment like the telephones that are out now, the newest telephones. We also have external plant departments. We are showcasing fibre optics technology and you know the advancement that happens with fibre optics and how the customers benefit.
Every year on May seventeenth we celebrate this day and this year we are celebrating under the theme, “Electronic Commerce”. The theme has been adopted by the International Telecommunications Union.”
As usual the exhibition was well attended by primary school students.
