Port of Belize Files Suit Against Christian Workers Union
The Port of Belize Limited has filed a law suit in the Supreme Court of Belize seeking damages in the sum of one million dollars. A Supreme Court of Belize claim form lists P.B.L. as the Claimant and the Christian Workers Union as the First Defendant. Evan “Mose” Hyde, President of the Christian Workers Union has been listed as the second defendant. Other defendants include Guy Neal, Winfield Dennison, Kenton Blanco, James Neal, and Wendell Whitaker, all stevedores at the Port of Belize Limited. The claim form accused Hyde of facilitating and encouraging the other defendants to participate in an illegal strike. P.B.L. is seeking damages for interference of economic interest by unlawful means. P.B.L. claims the strike action prevented them from loading and unloading cargo from the container ships, and seeking special damages in the sum of one million, thirty-four thousand, four hundred dollars and costs. The C.E.O. of the Port of Belize, Andy Lane, told News Five the documents are public record and declined to comment at this time.
