Government to sell unnecessary property

The government will be streamlining its operations. At the weekly Cabinet meeting in Belmopan today it was announced that the Ministry of Works will be identifying all public buildings, taking inventory and grouping them according to ministry. The ministries will then be responsible for all rehabilitation or maintenance. The assessment program encompasses road infrastructure and equipment maintenance. All buildings found to be no longer of use will be sold at market value. Under the office of the Prime Minister, the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO will meet this Thursday night for a simulation in preparation for hurricane season which opens June 1st. Mock evacuations will be conducted as part of the exercise. District Emergency Management exercises will also participate. Cabinet also approved funding for a National Literacy Campaign during July and August.
