Millions Saved in Infrastructure Development

John Briceño

During his keynote address on Monday, Prime Minister John Briceño took time to acknowledge the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing. According to the PM, millions of dollars have been saved in infrastructure development under the leadership of Minister Julius Espat. In a break down, he shares that cost-cutting measures were done for the Caracol Road and the Haulover Bridge.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Julius has put an amazing team in getting the work done. And from the works and the redesigning that they have done and renegotiating of loans, we have been saving millions of dollars. I mean the road to Caracol; he and his team looked at the road and it was being really overdesigned – I am not engineer here so please – and reworked it in a way so that we still have a world class highway going all the way to Caracol, but saving approximately twenty-five million dollars. And again, he and his team looked at the Haulover Bridge and did the very same thing looking that again it was overdesigned for our needs and yet came up with a plan for a bridge that is going to be meeting our needs for decades to come. And again, once again, saving this country and the people of Belize another twenty-five million dollars. Just on those two projects, he’ll be saving fifty million dollars for Belize.”
