Leonardo Castro is Shot Near Lakeview Street

A shooting incident in the vicinity of Lakeview Street over the weekend has left Leonardo Castro recovering from injuries he received during the attack.  According to the victim, he was at a residence through a nearby alley on Friday evening when he came under gunfire from an unknown assailant.  Earlier today, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood responded to questions of a possible connection between this most recent incident and a previous shooting in the area last week.

“On Friday, February twenty-fifth, police visited the Accident and Emergency area of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw Leonardo Castro suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Castro relayed to investigators that he was at a house through an alley off Lakeview Street when a male person approached the house and fired several shots, causing his injuries. Officers have been canvassing that area trying to get the identity of the shooter, but we know that Mr. Castro has been listed in a stable condition at the K.H.M.H.”

“[Is there any] motive behind the shooting?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood Communications Director, B.P.D.

“Not as yet.  Like I said, we are trying to identify the shooter and then maybe that could give us an idea of why that took place. Every shooting within the country of Belize is of grave concern to us. Whether a person was hit or not it is very concerning and in this case, Mr. Castro was injured. Thankfully, he’s in a stable condition but we have patrols in that area, we have officers actually doing foot patrols in that zone. When you say a flare up, last week the shooting that took place was a little distance from this one that occurred and while we would want to connect because of logical thinking, it’s a week apart and there is no rift between this week’s victim and any of the persons from last week that was the intended target. But of course, we are examining every angle because at the end of the day we want to get to the bottom of all these rivalries in the street.”
