New details on carriers of explosives

Additional details have finally been released by police about the two men arrested on Monday after they transported explosives on a Novelo’s Bus. According to police the two men from El Salvador, 19 year old Jose Antonio Peña Chacon and 34 year old Serafin Jorge Alejandro Sanchez entered Belize illegally by wading across the Mopan River. The men were carrying two grenades in their kit bags and Chacon had a pistol. They boarded a bus and headed for Belize City but were detained by two officers who thought they were behaving suspiciously. Police say the men claim they were carrying the explosives because they were on their way to the United States and might need to sell them for extra money along the way. The men have been charged with the importation of explosives and keeping prohibited firearms and ammunition. The Immigration Department is also charging the men with illegal entry. In addition they could face customs offenses. Police tell News Five it is up to the courts to determine if the men will be deported.
