Summit is Offshoot of She4She Movement
The Summit was planned by the She4She (She for She) Initiative, which is a movement with roots in Africa. Through its introduction in Belize now, Mayor of Belmopan, Sharon Palacio is hoping the movement will take flight and spread similarly across Belize and the rest of the world, uplifting women through empowerment.
Sharon Palacio, Mayor, Belmopan
“The time has come whereby we need to be empowered by ourselves, connect – create linkages for a lifetime. Having Dr. Howard [Taylor] is a dream come true. It was declared to the universe – I never imagined it was going to happen so fast. I’m about to celebrate a year of being the one female mayor in this country and I’m excited. The next coming days, the summit is the first of its kind. It’s happening here; next year it will be in Liberia. Thereafter it will be all over the world. It’s going to transcend. It’s going to outlive all of us. There’s so much that we can do as women. Dr. Howard has a very interesting story because she is the Vice President of Liberia and as Belizeans, we need to reach such a level.”
The Summit will see women from key offices around the world, including from the United Nations, female Mayors from the U.S. and South Africa converging at the Biltmore Plaza this weekend in their effort to unify and advance other women with similar dreams to reach their level.
