Women’s Summit Will Seek to Inspire Women to Lead
The She-For-She Champions Summit which will take place from Friday through to Sunday in Belize City has the theme “Towards Inclusive Governance in
Public and Political Affairs.” It will showcase speeches and anecdotes that will seek to inspire women to lead. Liberian Vice President Dr. Jewel Taylor said she has high expectations for the event and thereafter.
Dr. Jewel Taylor, Vice President, Liberia
“We keep complaining that our numbers are low, which they are, but then we need to look at what’s holding us back from actually saying yes, let’s support women and bring the women to the table. So after we do all of the talking, the end result is what are we taking back, all of us. The common thread that binds us, of course, is our history – that Africans were enslaved and taken off across the world and Belize was also a part of the slave trade where people that came from the African continent were brought here. So, we’re related by blood, we’re related by tradition. So, I think that there’s more that connects us than divides us, so we look forward to the Belize-Liberia or the Belize-African connection to become more pronounced, so that your children can get a chance to see the ancestors that are still alive in Africa and we get a chance to come here and connect with the people who are here. I think it’s an exciting time.”
