Explosives on a bus
On Monday two men boarded a Novelo’s Bus bound for Belize City. They would have reached their destination without incident and gone about their business, if it hadn’t been for two police officers who felt something was wrong. It’s not clear at this point what tipped off the observant officers but they took the men to Raccoon Street Police Station. There they made a startling discovery: the men were carrying explosives. News Five has been unable to get confirmation from the Ministry of National Security, but reliable sources tell us the two Salvadorans were packing an undisclosed type of explosive, an M-16 assault rifle, a small grenade and a 45 caliber pistol in their luggage. It is not known at this point if the men are part of a criminal ring operating out of the Belmopan area, but sources in Belmopan tell us that a number of people from Las Flores were picked up yesterday for questioning. So far only the two men who were on the bus have been charged with possession of prohibited firearms and explosives. The Ministry of National Security is remaining tightlipped, telling one media house the issue is “too sensitive” to comment on at this time. The bi-weekly police press release was not issued today.
