P.S.U. Still Questions Mai’s Appointment

v

But for senior officers within the Department of the Environment, Mai’s appointment to Chief Environmental Officer post reportedly remains a live issue. Today, President of the Public Service Union, Dean Flowers, spoke out once again. According to Flowers, members of the union requested that a statement be made on what he referred to as, “G.O.B.’s misleading Press Release”. Flowers asserts that potential candidates for the post with suitable qualifications in environmental studies were overlooked.

Dean Flowers, President, Public Service Union

“The Union has felt it necessary to listen to the members from within the Department of Environment from within the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change as it relates to the government’s press release surrounding the appointment of a new Chief Environmental Officer. We are here today with the government having issued a press release which stated that, and they were very selective in their words, they said that and let me refer to that verbatim, they said that Mr. Antony Mai has been appointed the new Chief Environmental Officer and that he has a degree from Galen University with concentration sustainable development. What the release failed to say is that Mr. Mai’s masters degree is in business administration and not in the sciences as is required for the post of Chief Environmental Officer. As I stated, there are other officers within the Department who have master’s degree in environmental studies and environmental related studies, and sciences surrounding the environment. So clearly, these people academically would have superseded, or at least their qualifications would have superseded this master’s degree in business administration with a mere concentration in sustainable development. And, I think most of us know about that sustainable development program which I am not quite sure went anywhere under Dr. Zabaneh at the time nuh.
