Chess in Schools Program revitalized

In an effort to help Belize’s young people find constructive activities, the Belize Chess Federation is reinvigorating its Chess in the Schools Program. The International Federation, FIDE, has given Belize one hundred chess sets and boards. Thirty of these will be used for Belize Chess Federation activities and the rest will be distributed to schools throughout the country. Enrique Caliz of Belize Technical College is spearheading a Social Chess Club at the Government House; Santiago Montejo is receiving assistance for his club at Holy Redeemer School. Rene Trujeque, former National Inter-Scholastic Champion and Chess Coordinator for Muffles College and Sheldon Hudson will receive assistance for the northern districts. The B.C.F. is calling on all members and former members to contact the Federation office to find out how they can help with the drive.
