Chef Sean Whipping Up Belizean Specials for Royal Visit

And, well known local chef, Sean Kuylen, will be working his magic to the treat the royal couple to a one of a kind culinary and cultural experience during their visit to Belize. On Friday, News Five will have a detailed look at what is on the menu for the receptions, but tonight here is a sneak peek of our interview with Kuylen on his preparations for the days ahead. He also answers the question: will gibnut be included as it was on one of the Queen’s visits?

“We will not be having the royal rat.”

“Tell me about it, because that is one of the first questions coming up. Will the royals be served the royal rat?”

Sean Kuylen

“Well, everybody, you see again, we all remember about the royal rat. I think they are tired of hearing it maybe. So, we won’t be doing that. I hear it a lot too. And they ask me nuh does that, although I would love to.  I am also involved in choreographing.  I am like, the cuisine of Belize; the people of Belize are already beautiful. I just put a lee makeup and lip stick. I need to be ahead of all of them all the way. So, I must have to catch a lee James bus and hurry reach the location.”

“Floralia”

“Ey, you wah get me eena trouble, the man seh Floralia. So, I need to be ahead of them and I am going to be on a farm on the Southern Highway, a chocolatier again. They are going to have a presentation for them, because they again want indigenous and authentic experience. So, that is an hour and a half of making chocolate, but picking cacao from the tree, everything beautiful done right there, copal incense burning, blessing them, because it is for sacred event, authentic. Then we move on to Hopkins village, my favorite. I have to go dah Hopkins, Garifuna cuisine. Of course the hudut, the tapow, a lee sahou, warm up things. Maybe Kate could eat the curry, but we need to give William a lee sahou. Weh deh do with that at the end of the night, I don’t know.”
