Regional educators meet
As children return to school after the Easter vacation they have to get back to work in reading, writing, English and Math. For the next four days regional educators will be examining ways to improve children’s performance in these areas at a workshop sponsored by the CARICOM Secretariat and the Ministry of Education. News Five stopped by the Fiesta Inn for the first session.

“This workshop is aimed primarily at identifying desired learning outcomes in language and mathematics for the primary level. And we hope that coming out of this an identification of a set of a whole competencies in those areas which member states will then use in their various curriculum and in ways which they develop and assess their students.
At the meeting of the Council of Human and Social Development at which your Permanent Secretary and your Chief Education Officer were present, this was an item on the agenda and Belize immediately recognized the importance of the exercise and offered to host the workshop. And we took it from there.”
The workshop ends Thursday.
