D.F.C. Offers Citrus Revitalization Loans to Farmers
A new loan product to support small, medium and large citrus farmers has been launched by the Development Finance Corporation. The Citrus Revitalization Loans aim to provide financial support to farmers who are in need. The purpose is to double citrus production over a five year period, from one and a half million to three million boxes in the short-term and from one point five million to five million boxes in ten years. According to a release from D.F.C., financing starts as low as five point five percent and farmers will be able to access working capital loans to rehabilitate economically feasible, existing citrus groves, as well as access capital investment loans for the replanting of old citrus groves affected by citrus greening. Farmers are also being encouraged to diversify their crops into high potential tropical fruits, including pineapples, soursops, and coconuts.
