Woman stabbed by former common-law husband
Yesterday morning while everyone was returning home from a long Easter vacation a twenty-two year old mother of two boys Sheryl Barrow was almost killed by her former common-law husband Louie Gentle. According to a family member and an eyewitness Gentle had previously threatened Barrow and was ordering her to go home with him that day but she refused. News Five spoke to Barrow’s sister who told us about events which unfolded at their residence at 4443 Peter Ciego Street.

“Yesterday Louie was telling my sister to let her go home with him and she said that she won’t go because he likes to beat her up. Yesterday my sister was coming in and yesterday every minute Louie was going and coming and then he came again. I did not know what he brought with him. Then they were quarreling. Then my sister went into the house and Louie went into the house and pulled her out of the house. Then he started to beat her up and kicked her up and punched her in her face. Then he took out a knife and he started to stab her up. I ran inside and I took a broom and scrubbing board and lashed him with it. He then turned around and tried to stab me with the knife. And when I hit him with the broom. He got up and picked up his bag and ran through the gate.”
Barrow says that after Gentle stabbed her sister about four times then he stabbed himself once before he ran off. Sheryl was immediately taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she is said to be in a guarded condition which means that there is a fifty-fifty chance that she could live or die. Gentle has since been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
