Belizean Archaeologist Honored by Society for American Archaeology

Belizean archaeologist Dr. Jaime Awe has been recognized by a regional archaeology association for his contributions to the field. A release from the National Institute for Culture and History says Dr. Awe was given the 2022 Society for American Archaeology award for Excellence in Latin American and Caribbean Archaeology during the eighty-seventh S.A.A. Annual Meeting of the Chicago this week. Dr. Awe served as the Director for the Belize Institute of Archaeology from 2003 to 2013. He continues to champion the importance of the protection and preservation of Belize’s cultural heritage as Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Northern Arizona University. His current research includes the Belize Valley Reconnaissance Project. Last month he also served as the person guide to their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their visit to Belize.
