Autopsy reveals Malic was tortured
A little girl, who should have spent this afternoon doing her homework and talking to her friends, was instead eulogized at the church across the street from her school. Jackie Fern Malic’s murder, so similar to the October slaying of Sherilee Nicholas, who would have been celebrating her 13th birthday next week, has sparked feelings of disgust and outrage throughout Belize. The Prime Minister characterized the madness as similar to that of “Jack the Ripper” in London in the last century and perhaps he is not too far off in the comparison. Despite numerous attempts yesterday by News Five to obtain the results of the autopsy performed on Jackie Malic in Belmopan, it was not until today that everyone’s worst fears about her last few moments were confirmed. Dr. Mario Estradabran, who also had the sad duty of examining Sherilee Nicholas, says Jackie was slowly tortured and mutilated by someone who knew what he was doing, and took pleasure in it. We must warn you, what you are about to read is very disturbing. Parents please exercise discretion if young children are watching.
Dr. Mario Estradabran, Police Pathologist
“The attacker had a lot of time to inflict injuries on Jackie Fern Malic’s body. He was enjoying the procedure that he was performing.”
Estradabran says Malic received stabs to her vagina, buttocks, knee, upper right arm and multiple wounds to the left side of her face. A portion of her left arm was chopped off by her killer.
Q: “Lets move now to the amputation of the arm. The area the body was found in is known to have a lot of crocodiles. Do you believe the arm was chopped off by a man or eaten by an animal?”
Dr. Mario Estradabran
“On the left upper limb has the characteristics of a man, an assailant, that the action of the amputation which has the characteristics of a traumatic amputation.”
Q: “She was found without any underwear. Was she sexually molested?”
Dr. Mario Estradabran
“She had some characteristics that someone was molesting her but we will be confirming that more scientifically when I get the final report.”
Estradabran believes the attacker knew what he was doing and had the skill of a butcher or someone familiar with surgical blades. Estradabran says, based on his experience and autopsy findings, he believes that Malic and Sherilee Nicholas, the other twelve year old girl who was murdered and whose body was found in October of 1998, were killed by the same weapon and person.
Q: “Are the chop wounds consistent to that of Sherilee Nicholas?”
Dr. Mario Estradabran
“That is a very important question and I would like to say and I am almost very sure in relation to comparing both cases, the injuries of Sherilee Nicholas and Jackie Fern Malic, I am almost sure that the injuries were inflicted with the same weapon.”
At this time it is not known if Malic was killed at the same location where her body was found on the road leading to the cemetery by mile eight on the Western Highway. The fact that the severed arm has not yet been found could indicate she was killed elsewhere.
