B.H.A. looks at Sales Tax

Story Picture
As part of Tourism Week, the Belize Hotel Association will be holding a quarterly general meeting. One workshop at the meeting deals with Sales Tax and how it impacts the tourism industry. President Teresa Parkey told us how she believes the tax will affect B.H.A. members.

Teresa Parkey, President, Belize Hotel Association

“We’ve been fortunate that the accommodation segment of the tourism industry is being exempt from the Sales Tax because we already have a seven percent tax. In terms of the food and beverage operation and in terms of the tour operation it will certainly have an impact. More on the food and beverage operation. But we are still working out the mechanisms. That is one of the reasons we feel that tomorrow’s workshop is very important. Mrs. Barrow will be there as the Sales Tax Commissioner and will be working through scenarios to see how the tax will impact our industry.”

The meeting takes place at the B.T.I.A. office near the Memorial Park on Thursday at nine a.m.
