NOPCA denounces killings
The National Organization for the Prevention of Child Abuse views the murder of twelve year old Jackie Fern Malic as a cold and despicable act of violence that terrorizes our children and society on a whole. In a statement issued this evening, NOPCA says that these acts of terror, which began with Sherilee Nicholas, must be abhorred by each and every law-abiding citizen and should be recognized as a blatant disregard for law and order and the sanctity for human life. NOPCA says they will continue to educate and inform children along the lines of safety with courses in the schools. They also propose a community strategy which involves such methods as school neighborhood watch programs. In related news, this weekend UNICEF is holding a Children’s Summit on the issue of abuse. It will take place Saturday at St. Mary’s Hall in Belize City. The Prime Minister Said Musa will head a panel discussion on how the government, non-governmental organizations, the police and the community can combat the increasing threat to the nation’s children.
