Political reform work underway
In keeping with its promise to keep the public informed about its progress, the Political Reform Commission says they are now well into the first of three phases of work. The Commission, appointed by the Prime Minister in December to examine Belize’s system of governance and make recommendations for improvement says they have been reviewing the Constitution and other materials on political reform published in Belize and the Caribbean. A summary of the main areas of concern will be published next month. There will also be nationwide consultations beginning in May. These will include open forums, visits to schools and radio and TV programs. The commission invites comments from the public, through letters, e-mail or in person to the Political Reform Commission’s Headquarters at the WASA building in Belize City. The fourteen members of the commission represent both political parties as well as trade unions, the Bar Association, the Council of Churches, business community and the media.
