An Easter Message for All

Across the country, thousands of Belizeans are traveling for leisure this Easter weekend to get away from the monotony of everyday life at home or work. Thousands more will also be spending time convening with the Holy Spirit in commemoration of Easter, a Christian festival and cultural holiday remembering the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It is described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary. Easter culminates the Passion of Jesus which is preceded by Lent, a period of forty days during which Christians fast, pray, and repent. The true celebration of Easter is not lost on our religious leaders who remind all Belizeans about the reason for the season.

Bishop Phillip Wright

Bishop Phillip Wright, Anglican Diocese of Belize

“Let’s bear in mind that towards the close of this week, an innocent man, we are recalling where an innocent man was brought to trial and you know what the popular vote was?  Free the robber, free the murderer and crucify the innocent man. I just want to leave that with us that the popularity vote with the larger crowd, the bigger voice, is not always the right voice and it’s not always the voice of justice. So let’s reflect on these things this week, especially as we journey with our Lord to the cross and watch an innocent victim killed.”

Pastor Lance Lewis

Pastor Lance Lewis, National Evangelical Association of Belize

“It’s a tremendous time to pray and to seek God’s face on behalf of the nation and to preach the gospel for there’s no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved and we have to preach the gospel and tell the people that unless a man is born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Let’s ask the people of God to spend time in prayer and worship and to seek God’s face on behalf of the nation. It’s a reminder on the church to stick to the message that Jesus Christ alone is savior and Lord and that’s what we have to preach.”
