Woman shot by robber
While most of the housewives on Freetown Road were preparing their midday meal, two women in a shop were about to be terrorized and injured by a young man armed with a gun. The incident has left one woman in critical condition.
Neighbors say they don’t recall hearing any gunshot but they’ll never forget a loud piercing scream that sent them running over to De He Li Grocery Shop. According to one witness, who did not wish to appear on camera, she saw one of the Chinese women, thirty year old Yeng Wen Chan frantically trying to make a phone call.

“The woman was standing behind the counter in her store and she was trying to make a phone call and she was just full of blood.”
Lying on the ground, just a couple of feet away was the woman’s sister, twenty-eight year old Yang Lee Chan.

“From what we could see, it looks like she was shot in the forehead or in the jaw area but it was bleeding so we could not really pin point the area.”
According to A.I.P. Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B. the women were attacked after they refused to give the robber money he had demanded.

“He fired a shot hitting one of them on the forehead and the other one received multiple chop wounds on her body and presently they are at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.”
The robber, described as a young Creole man of dark complexion, then grabbed the cash drawer and ran from the scene. But during his flight, the drawer dropped and the attacker only managed to get away with some of the money. Police are asking the general public to assist them in their investigation.

“At this time we cannot really confirm the color clothing he was wearing because the Chinese are hospitalized and we cannot receive a reliable, a more concrete information from them. So we are now asking the general public that if they saw this incident to come forward and pass it on to the police.”
When we contacted the K.H.M.H. they said that Yan Wen Chan was only treated for a bruised eye while her sister Yang Li Lee Chan has suffered brain damaged and up to newstime is clinging to life.
The police believe that Chan was shot with either a nine millimeter pistol or a point thirty eight pistol. C.I.B. has detained Dean “Mr. T” Bodden and Lincoln “Kilo Boy” Allen whom they believe can assist them in their investigation. According to Alvarez, Allen, who was in Caye Caulker, handed himself over to police after he heard he was being sought.
