Miami Human Rights Rep. Believes Cubans Imprisonment Too Harsh for “Trespassing”

Eddie Sierra believes that the conditions of imprisonment are just too harsh for the infraction the Cubans have committed, and he is here to follow their plight.

“I’m here to advocate on behalf of the detainees that are being held in the Belize Central Prison under strenuous conditions because they have not committed a crime other than trespass Belize and they did not understand the whole legal process. They also did not know they were crossing into Belize borders.”

“Our organization represents individuals all over the world. We advocate on behalf of immigrants who basically do not have the means or legal representation or advocate for themselves. This is the first time that we’re actually aware that something like this is happening in Belize. I was informed because I have two family members that were recently detained and that is one of the reason s that we became aware of the situation.”
