Police crack down on deportees
The Ministry of National Security is tightening up on criminals deported from the United States and other countries. The Ministry announced today that it will be enforcing a 1998 law which places certain restrictions on their movements and that the Police Department will be monitoring these individuals. Under the Law Reform Act deportees may be required to report to police at regular, even daily intervals, report any change of residence and may not associate with any gangs. The police will now be requiring deportees to carry report sheets with them at all times and if they violate the new policies they could be fined up to one thousand dollars or spend up to a year in jail. The measures are intended to curb criminal activity by deportees. The new policy takes effect today.
