“Bill Cantun, since 1982, since my enlistment in the Belize Police Force I have dealt with Bill Cantun on several occasions of deception. His modus operandi: he would approach stranger. He would question them, if they want to purchase a vehicle or if they want to go to the United States. Okay, what he usually does is go and rent vehicles. If a vehicles, they have stickers, he would remove the stickers. After you will give him the cash he would tell you he would take a ride around the block and he’ll come back in a while. After that you won’t see him.”
Alvaraz says the most recent incident involved a resident of San Ignacio who reportedly gave Cantun fifteen hundred dollars to get a vehicle out of customs and then left him at the U.S. Embassy in Belize City. Cantun is wanted for similar acts of deception in Corozal and San Ignacio. Police say Cantun makes frequent visits to the U.S., but does not go through the Northern border making him difficult to catch. Cantun also goes by the names Carlos or Antonio Bedran.
