Minister Perez to Meet with Sartaneja Community on Friday
Minister Perez is scheduled to meet with residents in Sarteneja Village on Friday. When he was asked if he is confident that he will get the buy-in of Sarteneja residents, Minister Perez suggested that there are some political motives at play among protestors in the community. But, according to the Minister of Blue Economy, he will seek to show the fisher folks that he is only there to protect their livelihoods.
Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation
“The way how we are doing, the information we are sharing, it is clear also and people are beginning to see, and especially in Caye Caulker that there is also another motive behind it, a political motive. I am not talking about political parties. It is about the hustling and jostling of parties who sits where in these committees in the coops as well. Also coming into the village council elections there is a lot of movement occurring. But, my job is to make sure that is not mixed up with the serious work we have to do in the Blue Economy and Fisheries Department. In the end, that will show our fisher folks that we are here to protect them to protect their live hoods, the industry. In the end I am here to be with them. It is beautiful to be out here, beautiful to be fishing. I recognize that, I have visited these people especially those in Sartaneja. I have made trips all the way down south to climb on what of these boats to see how they fish, how they live, how they eat. I have very much respect for that to see it hands on right there.”
