La Democracia will be first satellite town
During this week’s Cabinet meeting, it was decided that the first satellite town will be located near La Democracia at mile 31 on the Western Highway. The Ministries of Education and Tourism announced they will organize a massive countrywide clean-up campaign to reduce the amount of litter in our towns, villages and city. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economic Development says that they are working towards lower electricity rates. After reviewing the first stage of a feasibility study on the Macal River Upstream Storage Facility, B.E.L. should commission the completion of the full study. When implemented the water storage project would allow the Mollejon Plant to produce much more electricity, particularly during the dry season, and charge less for it. Reports were made by various ministries on the official visit to Cuba and the Ministry of Public Utilities announced that one hundred jobs would be available at the Water and Sewerage Authority for various water extension projects. The ministry also says that during the past month over six hundred new street lights have been installed in Belize City.
