Motorcycle Crash Injures Police Officer Near Naia Resort
Another police officer is recovering from injuries he received during a motorcycle collision in the vicinity of Naia Resort. Police Constable Jose Carabantes was riding a red Lifan motorcycle when he attempted to overtake another motorcycle that was being driven by twenty-two-year-old Damian Avilez. When Avilez indicated that he was turning into the compound, Carabantes crashed into him and suffered serious injuries. Fortunately, he has since regained consciousness and is recuperating at the Southern Regional Hospital.

“We had another traffic accident with P.C. Carabantes at Naia, the entrance to Naia Resort on Saturday night. He was returning from doing patrols on a police issued motorbike when another motorbike was in front of him, driven by one Mr. Avilez. Avilez indicated to turn into Naia Resort and at the same time a police officer overtook to the left where he collided into the other motorbike. We know that he suffered head injuries. He was transported to the I.S.F., the Independence Polyclinic and later by ambulance to Southern Regional [Hospital] where he was listed as critical. They had performed a C.T. Scan and I haven’t received the result of that scan as yet but I know that he has regained consciousness and is communicating with the officers investigating this unfortunate incident. I must state that the other rider of the other motorbike provided assistance and got a vehicle to help transport the officer to the polyclinic. So I just want to clear that up because people were saying that he fled the scene. He did not.”
