Rice production needs improvement
A seminar on Belize’s rice industry is being held this week in Belmopan. The three-day event sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture will focus on strengthening the industry to meet demands for rice exports to Mexico, CARICOM and European markets. According to Minister Daniel Silva the instability of rice production in Belize is a major concern and participants will be asked for their suggestions on how to improve the situation. The results of the seminar will be incorporated into a rice policy which will encourage the use of drainage and irrigation and other factors to sustain yields.
