Boom woman kidnapped and robbed
In Belize City, Chinese shopkeepers erect bars to try and protect themselves from robbers, but one woman in Burrell Boom had nothing between her and an assailant who kidnapped her at knifepoint in her own car. Police say a little after twelve midnight Saturday, Winnie So, the owner of Melonie’s Grocery and Hardware in Burrell Boom, locked up the shop and drove towards her home near the bridge. Just as she stopped at her gate, a man dressed in full black opened the car door. He slapped her and held a knife to her throat. He instructed her to slide over to the passenger side and then drove the car to the Boom/Hattieville Road and parked on a feeder road. He tied her hands and feet and searched her until he found a bunch of keys. He then left So and went back to Melonie’s Grocery where he stole four hundred dollars worth of coins. So was able to get away and immediately went to the Boom Police Station. Boom police say they launched an intensive investigation with the help of Hattieville police and the Criminal Investigations Branch. Mark Anthony Sho, also a resident of Boom was picked up at eleven that morning and police say he confessed to the abduction and burglary. Today Sho was taken to Magistrate’s Court where he has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, indecent assault, burglary, damage to property and harm. He has been remanded to Hattieville Prison until March twelfth.
