Belize gets second house factory free

Story Picture
Minister of Housing Dickie Bradley returned today pleased that not only was Belize able to lease a small plant from the Cuban government to build low cost homes, but an additional factory was also thrown into the deal for free. He says the factories will employ between ten to fifteen workers each and be located near the sites of the new satellite towns as soon as these plans are finalized. Minister Bradley says President Castro expressed keen interest in the proposal from Belize.

Dickie Bradley, Minister of Housing

“In the discussions we had with him he asked a lot of detailed questions in regard to the housing program in Belize: How much it cost to build a house in Belize? What would be the repayment term? How many period of years? He wanted to know how many Belizeans would be affected by the program that the Government of Belize has committed itself to. And arise out of those discussion, he later on told the Prime Minister that even though Cuba, in his words is a “bit low on funds” — he joked about the matter of the shortage of funds — he felt that the government and people of Cuba had an obligation to help Belize in the housing construction, in other areas as well. But certainly when we explained to him that for many years there has been a terrible need for housing in Belize, he decided to give us outright another plant. The first plant is being leased for a period of five years, but this second plant is a gift to the people of Belize.”
