Forger tries to flee to Guatemala
A pay clerk for the San Pedro Town Board has been charged for forging numerous checks. After the Town Board received a Belize Bank statement for the month of January, Mayor Alberto Nuñez noticed some irregular checks. An internal investigation revealed that Jesus Tzul had forged six checks totaling forty-six thousand, four hundred dollars. If that is not enough, Tzul had also not deposited five checks totaling nineteen thousand, seven hundred ninety five dollars and had used one hundred and seventy five dollars cash bringing the total amount of missing funds to sixty-six thousand three hundred and seventy dollars. The matter was immediately reported to the police. Tzul fled the island and was on his way to the western border but was apprehended by Franciso Arceo, accompanied by police, at the Benque border. Tzul was taken to Magistrate’s Court yesterday and offered bail in the amount of twenty five thousand dollars which he did not meet. If he does pay the bail Tzul must report to the Police Station two times a day on a daily basis. The court has also confiscated his passport.
