Opposition Leader says Belize City needs U.D.P. City Council
Party Leader Dean Barrow told News Five the U.D.P. has deliberately selected new people to emphasize the party’s restructuring. We asked him why people should vote for a U.D.P. City Council in view of past problems between a U.D.P. government and a P.U.P. council.

“Even within the limits of the financial constraints, there is a subvention by law which the City Council must receive and I think there are certain taxes that the City Council collects that the government is powerless to do anything about. So the City Council will have its own budget no matter what the hostility from the Central Government is. Within the limits of that budget, the Belize City Council can do a decent job, can certainly do a much better job than the current City Council has been doing. But also because we are going to be inviting them to use this occasion to register their protest against what is happening on the part of Central Government.”
The People’s United Party introduced its candidates at a rally last week at the Pound Yard. Emma Boiton of the National Alliance for Belizean Rights told News Five NABR will be announcing its candidates for City Council shortly.
