Harold Mutrie and Jose Penados Charged for San Ignacio Shooting
A Belizean mechanic of Santa Elena Town and a fellow mechanic from Succotz Village have been charged in connection with the shooting of twenty-six-year-old George Requeña, a baker of a Belize City address. Requeña was socializing with family and friends in the downtown area of San Ignacio when he was approached by a male person who started an argument with him. During the verbal exchange, Harold Mutrie allegedly took out a thirty-eight revolver and fired a single shot, injuring Requeña.

“On Saturday, May twenty-eighth, around 1:33 a.m., police received information of a shooting victim at the San Ignacio Community Hospital. Upon making checks, they found George Requena, twenty-six-years-old, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the body, a single gunshot. Initial investigation reveals that at about sometime after one [o‘clock], Requena was socializing in downtown San Ignacio with family and friends when he was approached by a male person known to him. This person took out a thirty-eight revolver and fired a single shot at Requena, causing his injury. We are still investigating this matter. This person has been identified to police and I will be at liberty to release his identity as soon as we have levied charges against him.”
Mutrie has been charged with wantonly discharging a firearm in public, attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. Meanwhile, thirty-three-year-old Jose Antonio Penados has been charged with abetment to commit murder.
