Safety Measures for Farmers to Take in Case of Flooding
While the traces of Hurricane Agatha may not pose a direct threat to Belize, farmers in low-lying and flood prone areas are being advised, nonetheless, that the northern, central and southern parts of the country may be in danger of flooding. Farmers are being advised to pay keen attention to the weather situation which is likely to get worse over the next few days. Producers of crops are advised to harvest all available and mature crops, take an inventory of all crops that have been planted, as well as the production amount. Producers with green houses are being asked to remove covering materials and safely store equipment and supplies, while livestock producers are advised to temporarily relocate animals to safer areas. Additionally, they are asked to secure all farm machinery and farm inputs.
