The New Home of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association

The Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association will soon see its headquarters, located adjacent to the Marion Jones Sporting Complex on Princess Margaret Drive, completed. The building, named the Olympic House, will serve as the administration office for the association and will also provide a space for national associations to host meetings. In breaking down its function, Secretary General of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association Allan Sharp says that building, when completed, will surpass one point five million dollars.

“The building will surpass one point five million dollars. We’ve tried to do everything duty-free status. We’re also trying to make it an energy efficient building because we don’t want to be spending the funds in the utilities; we want to spend the funds in the people who are here and all the national federations. We believe it’s going to be a major part of our development because we’re having an area downstairs for holding seminars and meetings for the national federations. So instead of having it in their houses or any small area, they can come downstairs and have it. Major training can also happen downstairs. We hope to develop it into a state-of-the-art facility for giving lectures. And then upstairs here, we have the office for the administration. And the open area behind you is where we hope eventually to have up to twelve people to work for the nineteen different national federations we have at this time because just about every national federation is volunteer. So to step to the next level, we need to have some full-time people to help them to organize, to do everything, to answer all those communications you need, to ask for funding – this is all necessary; we need help.”
