U.D.P. stages demonstration

Although they were not visible at the start of the House meeting this morning, a couple of hours later a group of United Democratic Party demonstrators did make their way to the market square. The main attraction of the procession was what Opposition Leader Dean Barrow called the “Economic train that is going backwards.” News Five spoke with the Area Representative for Mesopotamia Michael Finnegan about the demonstration and the turnout of protestors.

“We’re having a demonstration; some of the people are behind the market, some are around the place. But it is our start with these demonstrations to start them and to carry them on as we go along.”

Q: “Are you disappointed with the turnout?”

“No, I’m not disappointed. Our intention is just to come out here and to ask people to show their displeasure with what is going on since the P.U.P. took office since August twenty seventh.”

Finnegan gave a sort of one man protest of his own inside the National Assembly by asking a question he had been told by the Speaker of the House several days ago was out of order. He asked the Prime Minister Said Musa to explain the status of the judgement against Vernon Harrison Courtenay and W.H. Courtenay and Company in which they were to pay the Social Security Board three point three four million dollars. Although he was told once more that the question was out of order, Finnegan says he will bring it up at future House meetings until he gets a satisfactory answer.
