Teenage girl convicted for stabbing friend to death
A fifteen year old girl has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter. Shernell Morris was fourteen when she stabbed sixteen year old Ashante Joseph to death in a fight over a magazine in August of 1997. Judge Troadio Gonzalez is reported to have told the court this morning that this type of incident is all too prevalent in our society and that parents must be held accountable for their children’s behavior. Although he sentenced Morris, he suggested that the Ministry responsible for Youth make arrangements to place Morris in a secure environment away from hardened criminals.
