James Adderley has sports
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re right on time for a fresh portion of Sports Monday. Week 2 of the B.F.L. playoffs took 3-time defending champion Juventus of Orange Walk further north to the Ricalde Stadium for a clash with Corozal’s La Victoria, looking to rebound after last week’s overtime loss to Sagitun of Mango Creek.
Juventus looks to open the scoring 10 minutes deep with an acrobatic launch from Marcelino Tun but Delmer Sutherland eventually corrals the pill. Downfield La Victoria makes its presence felt when Clifford Usher finds Barney Cobb but Charlie Slusher does a nice recovery to effect the save, but it’s a poorly played first half.
Coming out of intermission it is Corozal with the opportunity for the early lead but Clifford Usher can’t get the header down. At the other end it’s a perfect set for Christopher Hendricks from Esteban Hall, but obviously Hendricks is not on the good foot. Folks it’s late in second half when both teams begin to knock the ball. A left foot by Oliver Hendricks certainly gets the attention of the Orange Walk defense. At the other end, it’s Freddie Tun battling Delmer Sutherland for possession but this is the goalkeeper’s domain and he does win this round.
Now Marcelino Tun, he beats 2 defense, launches the shot, it’s tapped out to Esteban Hall and he doesn’t waste the opportunity to put Juventus into a 1-zip lead. With 5 minutes to long whistle desperation time for La Victoria when Barney Cobb centers to Oliver Hendricks, whose header beat Charlie Slusher who had ill admissibly come out of his goal as regulation time brings the 1-1 tie.
It’s the playoffs so we go to overtime and it’s #13 Jason Hall firing for the sudden death win but the ball crashes against the near upright. Juventus responds with this center from Marcelino Tun but Christopher Hendricks cannot catch up with the pass. A spotkick from Oliver Hendricks had Charlie Slusher worried. An elbow to the body of Allan Flowers takes Oliver Hendricks of La Victoria out of the ball game with a red card from Ruperto Vicente.
Meanwhile folks when it’s not to happen it’s simply not to happen and even with help from Ariel MagaƱa of La Victoria Marcelino Tun can’t get the pill between the sticks so we go to penalty kicks to conclude this particular ballgame.
Juventus leads with Charlie Slusher and it’s good. Juan Barragan ties it for Corozal. Allan Flowers makes his good and Carlos Espetia equalizes for La Victoria. Freddie Tun’s penalty is good but Jason Hall fails for La Victoria. This brings up Marcelino Tun only to see Delmer Sutherland make the stop. Esteban Hall misses the big one for Juventus and so it’s up to Clifford Usher and you can count on it. La Victoria picks up its first playoff point on penalty.
In the other playoff match-up in the B.F.L. this weekend: Sagitun scorched Belmopan 3-2 Saturday night at Independence. Thus the playoff standings look like this: Sagitun shows 5 points, Juventus 3 points, La Victoria 1 point and Belmopan zip.
Checking the M.C.C. first division playoffs San Pedro had stopped Kremandala Lakers 2-0, while Foundation Bombers hurt Independence 5-2. Thus San Pedro leads in the standings with 6 points, both Bombers and Lakers show 3 points apiece while Independence remains winless after 2 playoff outings. For Independence it seems they won’t be able to make the first division final series.
Hey, that’s our show for today, we invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.
