Faber’s Meat Shop robbed
With a string of robberies in shops over the past couple of weeks, city residents are beginning to feel afraid to go to their corner grocery store. Today Faber’s Meat Shop on Douglas Jones Street, which has been serving the Belizean public since 1991, was the scene of the latest robbery, and owner Albert Faber was assaulted.
Faber’s Meat Shop had been open for business for two and a half hours, and it was raining heavily when a slimly built young man entered the shop around ten thirty. He walked up to the counter and asked shop assistant Paul Santiago, for a pound of ground meat.

“Well, I get the bag, went to the freezer, weigh it and then put it on the counter and he flipped a twenty dollar bill to me. I called to the boss, “Boss we need change,” then he came over.”
Faber, who came across to get the man his change, said the customer appeared to be cool and calm as he stood at the counter. But as he bent his head down to look in the drawer, he said the youth hit him in the face.

“I was giving him the change when he knock me with the gun on my face. Then I lift up my head because my face was over the drawer. When I lift up my head he got the gun about six inches from my face, no farther than that. So I couldn’t do no more cause he had the gun cranked and there, where he told me that he wanted the money he see in the drawer and I give it to him. I gave the amount that was in there. Then he told me he wanted the small change and I told him I don’t have any more money in here and when he see it, he just turn round, walked through the door and jumped on his bike and ride off.”
According to Faber, the man who held up the shop without wearing a mask, rode off with over four hundred dollars in cash. Faber, who received a cut on the right cheek, told News Five that at the time of the incident, there was only one other customer inside the store who was not injured. Police say at this time they do not have a suspect and are investigating the incident.
