Milton Palacio hails Belize audience from Colorado
As sporting events go, it was not exactly the World Cup, Superbowl or NBA championship… but for Belize, the U.S. television premiere of favorite son Milton Palacio was an occasion that will not soon be forgotten. Palacio, MVP of last year’s CARICOM Championships, led his Colorado State University team to a convincing 73 – 62 victory over conference rival Southern Methodist University. Did he play well? How about a game high 24 points? How about two three pointers in a row that touched nothing but net? How about an assortment of Jordan like jams, Pippin like dishes and fast breaks that would put the inmates at Hattieville to shame. And that’s only half the story, as Milton — known as Milt to his American audience — also proved to be the most talented defensive player on the court and perhaps the entire league. While we here at News Five don’t pretend to be professional talent scouts, it seems that Milton Palacio, born of Belizean parents in Los Angeles, California, has got everything it takes to play big in the NBA.
And those who managed to watch last night’s game, pirated locally from the ESPN 2 satellite feed, not only saw a great performance by Palacio, they also got to hear throughout the broadcast about his Belizean heritage and love for the nation that still claims him. For us the high point of the night came when the announcers aired a message that Milton had recorded before the game.
Milton Palacio
“I just wanna say hello to everybody in Belize. Big up Belize.”
And all we can say is, “Big up,” Milton Palacio, we hope this is only the first of your many triumphs that we can share.
