Reinstatement of 10% Percent Salary
July first – it’s the day that the Briceño Administration says teachers and public officers will see the ten percent salary cut returned to them. Last year, despite pushback from the unions, G.O.B. implemented a salary adjustment and increment freeze and according to the amendment, it was to be in place for three years. But earlier this year, during the budget presentation in March, Prime Minister John Briceño announced that due to the economic recovery, the cut will be reinstated. With the adjustment, government offices were closed for business earlier or went on a shift system. In the case of schools, there were no classes on Fridays. Today, Minister of Public Service Henry Charles Usher said that effective July first, all government departments will revert to normal working hours and days.

“I can say that the public officers who have had to sacrifice this past year. I just want to thank them again, really appreciate that they were part of this process. I know it was difficult, but I am glad that we were able to get back that salary adjustment earlier than we expected. Of course with the salary adjustment returning, we are also returning to regular working hours, so the working hours will be returned to normal. And the work week – I believe that there were some departments where they cut down on the work week – that work week will also return to normal.”

“An amendment will be made to the law that was changed?”
Henry Charles Usher
“I am not sure if we need to do an amendment or it will be just a statutory instrument yes.”
