Guns and Ammunition Turn Up on Rocky Road
An operation earlier today in the vicinity of Rocky Road has turned up two firearms, including a nine millimeter Bursa pistol with a magazine containing twelve rounds of matching ammunition. It also yielded a thirty-eight revolver. As we’ve reported earlier, every effort is being made to avert any reprisal in the wake of Sunday’s murder of Benjamin Hyde Senior, whose son is a well-known street figure. According to Commissioner Williams, the proximity between the warring groups makes it difficult for police officers to fully cover the area.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“The presence of the police in the area on the ground, led us to the discovery of one nine millimeter pistol this morning for which one person is being arrested and charged. Shortly thereafter, police made another bust of a thirty-eighth revolver. That one, again, we are trying to see if we can tie it to the person who had it. But again, our presence in the area, constant operations, constant stop and search is yielding results and we are going to continue our effort in that area for as long as we deem it fit to do so. For them to go and avenge what happened is going to be even more detrimental to them because of the close proximity within which they live. It’s just a matter of jumping a zinc fence and you’re in the other one’s yard, and so it is important for them to understand that there is no need to retaliate because it is only going to bring the problem bigger. The family still has family members there and one family member has been killed. Do you want to see others dying?”
