“They are getting away because of a technical issue”, PM Briceño
Prime Minister Briceño also gave a response to the ruling made by Justice Lisa Shoman in the case brought against the Commission of Inquiry into the fire sale of government assets. As we reported, former Deputy Prime Minister Hugo Patt was awarded a hundred and forty-five thousand dollars in damages as a consequence of the commission’s findings and their published report. Well, P.M. Briceño sums up to the loss to a technical error. He is now intent on having the ruling appealed.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“As you know that, after this case the Attorney General will come to us and make a recommendation nation as to whether we should appeal the case. I believe it is excessive, but that is as far as I will go. I think that what we are forgetting here is that these people are getting away, not because they are innocent. They are getting away because of a technical issue, a technical process that was not followed. They are not saying we are not guilty you know. They are saying we were not given due process to come to represent ourselves. It is because of that technical error they are being compensated. But, again, unlike the previous government I will not bash the courts. What we will do is follow the process. I will listen to the advice of the Attorney General. If the advice is for us to appeal that case, we will appeal. I do hope that the recommendation is for us to appeal in the case.”
