Moses “Shyne” Barrow Unites the UDP?

There are reports that Party Leader Shyne Barrow has extended an olive branch to Patrick Faber and Tracy Panton in an attempt to unify the U.D.P. Reports are that Barrow has invited Faber to serve as Shadow Minister of Education in the party’s Shadow Cabinet. Information suggests that Faber has accepted the role, with certain conditions. Furthermore, Barrow has reportedly written to the Clerk of the National Assembly with a request that Faber’s seat in the House of Representatives be positioned next to the Deputy Party Leader. Barrow has also returned Tracy Panton to the party’s Shadow Cabinet. Shadow Cabinet Member Orson Elrington took to Facebook earlier today saying “today is a good day for our beloved United Democratic Party and a great day for Belize. I am absolutely proud of my brothers the Honorable Shyne Barrow and the Honorable Patrick Faber, as well as my sister the Honorable Tracy Panton”. On the other hand, Party Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow was not too keen on answering questions related to these developments, when reporters caught up with him today in Belmopan. Here is how that interaction went.

Shyne Barrow, Party Leader, U.D.P

“I am here for parliamentary day. I thought you were going to ask me about human rights and protection of such.”

“But it is essential we have a strong Opposition”

Shyne Barrow

“Yes, but a part of a strong Opposition is adhering to the Constitution of the Party. As I have always insisted to you, for good or bad, because when you start to discuss internal party matters, maybe in bad times, you end up disclosing or saying things that will be detrimental to the healing process, which is why I have a cardinal rule to adhere to the constitution so that we can talk about other matters.”

Reporter

“You would however neither confirm nor deny that you have been making strategic move to unify the Party to the manner that it once was?”

Shyne Barrow

“The former Party Leader, the Honorable Patrick Faber, has been an invaluable member of the Party, continues to be an inviolable member of the Party and we continue to remain committed to unifying the Party.”

Reporter

“This unification of the Party, was it because of the comments that were made by the former Prime Minister, him saying that the Opposition is rather lacking and week.”

Shyne Barrow

“I have to guide you to come out here and talk about parliamentary matters. Anything else, I think I have exhausted my good will in engaging, because I have been very and clear, for better or for worst that I don’t discuss internal party matters.”
